Camera filters for colour and black-and-white

In this article, we’ll get to know about the uses of camera filters. Film and video often exhibit sensitivity towards ultraviolet light. This happens mostly in outdoor locations, especially at higher altitudes where the ultraviolet light absorption is very low. Even at longer distances such as marine scenes also face a similar problem. The colour film will show a bluish colour cast or can also cause a low-contrast haze that will affect the photo details, especially when it comes to viewing far-away objects. Ultraviolet camera filters are used in such situations to absorb UV light without affecting the light input in the visible region. However, it is very important to distinguish between UV-generated haze and air-borne particles, such as smog. The air-borne particles absorb UV light and will not be removed by the UV camera filters. Ultraviolet camera filters come in different absorption levels and are usually measured by the visible-UV wavelength.

Infra-Red camera filters:
Special situations call for infra-red sensitive films. For recording aerial haze, heat effects, etc, infra-red sensitive films are a must. The colour and tonal renditions are different from other types of films. Different camera filters are used to remove unwanted visible light. Red, yellow, and orange camera filters are used for chromatic black-and-white films to enhance the contrast and colour of the films. Depending on the requirement one can choose the camera filters and the results will vary with different film type and other factors. Prior testing is recommended before choosing camera filters.
