What Are The Best Batteries For A Digital Camera?

Batteries in a digital camera are no better than any older film cameras due to the presence of sensitive electronic components. Digital cameras often require a minimum of four AA cells. Even these four batteries can run out of power within an hour of use. These factors are important to a photographer who wishes to have a battery that is cheap, efficient, rechargeable, and environmentally friendly.

There two safe and environmental friendly batteries, namely, NiMH (Nickel Metal Hydride) and the Ki-Ion (Lithium Ion) which are less expensive to use than the standard alkaline battery. These batteries are an alternative to several alkaline batteries that claimed to have higher capacity performance in the disposable group batteries. However, regardless of which battery one is using it cannot be predicted how long can a digital camera can function to its full capacity. For example, the AA alkaline batteries have a rating of over 2,500 mAh compared with the NiMH batteries which have only a capacity of 1,200 to 1,900 mAh. These calculations often lead to confusion and photographers often believe that alkaline batteries have more power than the NiMH batteries which are environmentally safe.

However, NiMH batteries and Li-Ion batteries have the capacity to run a camera three to four times longer than the alkaline batteries which can only perform to their full capacity if the device is used slowly. The lithium batteries work efficiently but are expensive and usually cannot be charged. The Duracell Ultra and Energizer Advanced Formula batteries also last for longer in the digital camera.
