After almost a week after Activision threatened to abandon PS3 platform, GameStop, a major US retail chain is apparently expecting a price cut in the PlayStation and Nintendo Wii in a few months. In the last week, Activision, one of the world’s leading game developers threatened to stop making games for PS3 platforms if the sales don’t rise. Activision CEO Bobby Kotick also suggested that Sony should cut the price of PS3 console to attract more gamers.
A major fall and holiday season would help PS3 bounce back on track. Along with PS3, slowing sales of Nintendo Wii have been a problem for them. Although, the need for sales hike is more for Sony as they are already under fire. Experts believe that we can expect a $100 cut for Sony PS3 coming in August when EA’s Madden NFL 10 releases. The console developers have high expectations from this game. Price tag for Nintendo Wii is also expected to be reduced by about $50 to attract buyers.
With many high status games lined including Halo 3, BioShock 2, Assassin’s Creed 2 are up for release in 2009, console developers would be more than happy to cut prices if they get returns. Xbox on the other hands is enjoying the top console crown. They have done exceedingly well and their improvement has taken them above PS3 and Wii in the gamers’ wishlist. The alleged Xbox 720 development is also creating a buzz which is helping them to stay on the top.
